Sweitzer Selected PAC Swimmer Of The Week

WASHINGTON, Pa. – Washington & Jefferson College freshman Jessica Sweitzer (Laurel, Md./Seton Keough) was awarded Presidents’ Athletic Conference Swimmer of the Week after winning seven events during the Presidents’ two victories last week.

With the score tied going into the final event at Westminster, Sweitzer swam the fourth leg of the 400 freestyle relay and touched the wall just a quarter of a second ahead of Marina Rozick of Westminster to give W&J (5-0, 2-0) a 152-147 victory on Wednesday.

Sweitzer opened the meet by swimming a leg in the 200 medley relay (1:51.99) and she also swam to a win in the 100 freestyle (55.63).

Against York (Pa.) on Saturday, she helped set three pool records on her way to victories in four events.  Sweitzer was a member of the teams that won the 200 medley (1:51.68) and the 400 freestyle relays (1:41.86), both pool records.  She also sped to victories in both individual freestyle events, winning the 50 in a time of 25:39 and the 100 (51:34, pool record).

Sweitzer has claimed victory 12 times this season, leading the Presidents to a perfect 5-0 opening to their season.  W&J has not lost a dual meet since January 16, 2010, a streak of 20 in a row.
W&J is off until December 2 when it travels to Grove City for the Wolverines’ Winter Invitational (10:00 am).
