Taylor Hockman Places 11th At NCAA Indoors
GRINNELL, Iowa -- Washington & Jefferson College senior Taylor Hockman (Martinsburg, W.Va./Hedgesville) placed 11th of 13 long jump competitors on Friday evening at the 2012 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships at Grinnell College.
Hockman, who became just the second male President in school history to compete at the NCAA Indoor Championships and first since 2002, recorded a top leap of 22'3" (6.78 meters) to claim 11th place. He entered with the nation's 11th-ranked jump. Hockman earned his spot at the national championship meet by posting a jump of 7.16 meters last weekend at the Columbia University Last Chance Meet.
Wartburg sophomore Jonas Elusme claimed the national title with a top mark of 23'10 3/4" (7.28 meters). Wisconsin-Whitewater junior Dave Kuczynski was second (23'10"), while Wisconsin-Lacrosse junior Isaac Vazquez was third (23' 8 3/4").
Hockman, the 2011 PAC Track & Field MVP, and his teammates will open their outdoor season Mar. 16-17 in North Carolina at the Wake Forest Open.
