Thiel Extends Win Streak To Four With 14-8 Win Over W&J
GREENVILLE, Pa. – Beth Snider and Hannah Stelmach both scored four goals as Thiel won its fourth consecutive women’s lacrosse match after defeating Washington & Jefferson 14-8 on Saturday at the Rissell-Schreyer Dome.
The Tomcats (6-6) handed the Presidents (2-7) their sixth-straight loss by outscoring W&J 6-2 during the final 30 minutes.
Senior midfielder Brittany Fradkin (Owings Mills, Md./St. Paul’s School for Girls) netted the first goal of the game just under three minutes in, but Thiel responded with five unanswered goals in a span of three minutes and three seconds, including two by Stelmach, to grab a 5-1 advantage.
The Presidents strung together three-straight goals, but Thiel once again responded with a pair. Senior midfielder Kelsey Kraus (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) brought W&J to within 7-6 with seven minutes left in the opening half, but Sharniqua Martin’s goal just before halftime gave the Tomcats a two-goal cushion.
Senior attacker Megan Kelly (South Park, Pa./Seton-LaSalle) fired in the first goal of the second half for the Presidents, but Thiel took command with the next six goals over a 17-minute stretch. Snider and Emily Harrigan both had two tallies for the Tomcats during the game-clinching spurt.
Fradkin led the Presidents with three goals and two assists, while Kraus added two goals and one assist. Kelly also recorded a pair of goals, while freshman midfielder Alex Dikos (Mohnton, Pa./Governor Mifflin) notched one. Senior goalie Julia McLellan (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) stopped seven shots.
Both teams attempted 22 shots, but Thiel held a slim 14-10 edge in draw controls.
W&J hopes to bounce back on Wednesday versus Frostburg State (7:00 pm) at Alexandre Stadium.
