Thiel Tops Presidents 32-12 In PAC Wrestling
WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Thiel College recorded victories in seven of the 10 bouts and defeated Washington & Jefferson College 32-12 in a Presidents’ Athletic Conference wrestling dual meet at the Henry Memorial Center Saturday afternoon.
The Tomcats (3-4, 1-0) received falls by Dan Yori (141), Jerrold Roosa (174) and Will Ringer (285) to earn the victory.
W&J’s first win came during the opening match as freshman 125-pounder Jacob Spearman (Lancaster, Ohio/Lancaster) knocked off Nick Hart by a 10-5 margin, upping his season record to 10-1.
Junior 157-pounder Josh Etzel (Elizabeth, Pa./Elizabeth-Forward) edged Brandan Collins 1-0 to produce his team-leading 18th victory of the year. Etzel is one victory shy of 50 for his career.
The Presidents’ final triumph came at 197 pounds as junior David Dibenedetto (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) made his season debut with a 51-second fall against Jake Trillow. Dibenedetto bumped up weight classes from his normal 165 flight.
Washington & Jefferson will take a break for the holiday season before returning to action on Jan. 5 at the Waynesburg Invitational.
