Thomas More Rallies To Defeat W&J 3-1

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Washington & Jefferson College won the first set, but Thomas More College stormed back to claim a 3-1 (25-27, 25-7, 25-10, 25-13) Presidents’ Athletic Conference volleyball victory on Wednesday evening at the Henry Memorial Center.
The Saints improved to 10-8 overall and 6-3 in the PAC. TMC entered the evening tied with Thiel for third place in the league standings.
The Presidents (7-12, 2-7 PAC) started off strong behind freshman middle hitter Lindsey Bennett’s (Pittsburgh, Pa./Brentwood) four kills and two blocks in the opening set. Bennett finished the match with six kills, three blocks and two digs.
Sophomore outside hitter Samantha Chorney (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic) led the Presidents with 18 digs, eight kills and one service ace. Freshman setter Megan Stoehr (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) notched 21 assists and six digs, while sophomore outside hitter/setter Madison Rotto (Freeport, Pa./Freeport) added nine assists, four kills and two digs.
Senior defensive specialist Alyssa Vukson (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) also collected 17 digs, while sophomore outside hitter Rachel Wallace (Apollo, Pa./Kiski Area) finished with seven kills, three digs and one block.
W&J returns to PAC play on Saturday when traveling to Grove City for a tri-match with the host Wolverines and Saint Vincent.
