Titans Rally Past Presidents
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- After Washington & Jefferson College won the first set, Westminster College responded by claiming the next three for a 3-1 Presidents’ Athletic Conference volleyball victory on Thursday night at Buzz Ridl Gymnasium.
W&J saw its record drop to 9-11 overall (3-10 PAC), while Westminster upped its mark to 19-7 and 9-4 in the PAC. Set scores for the match were 22-25, 25-18, 25-19, 25-9.
The Presidents were led defensively by sophomore Megan Stoehr (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) who collected 10 digs and four blocks. Stoehr also dished out 26 assists.
Freshman Courtney Grdina (Stow, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) tallied a team-high 19 digs, while juniors Samantha Chorney (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic) and Maura Lyle (Elizabeth, Pa./Elizabeth Forward) and sophomore Sarah Stedina (Darlington, Pa./Blackhawk) all contributed eight.
Chorney and classmate Tori Clark (Fall Branch, Tenn./Sullivan South) both recorded eight kills to lead the offense. Freshman Nicole Bishwaty (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) added seven kills and five assists.
W&J returns to the court on when it hosts Chatham on Tuesday at 7:00 pm. The Presidents have won 20-straight matches against the Cougars, including a three-set victory earlier this fall.
