Titans Snap W&J's Five-Game Win Streak
WASHINGTON, Pa. – An early Westminster goal put an end to the Washington & Jefferson women’s soccer team’s five-game win streak Saturday afternoon at Alexandre Stadium. The Titans took the Presidents’ Athletic Conference opener by the final score of 1-0.
W&J (5-5, 0-1 PAC) pressured offensively in the Westminster (6-5, 1-0 PAC) end for a majority of the contest, putting up a total of 15 shots. A slow dribbler into the back of the net in the ninth minute by Westminster’s Kerri Inzinga, however, that proved to be the difference maker.
Titans’ goalkeeper Maddy Frech was a huge part of the Westminster victory, stopping nine shots in the 90 minutes of action. W&J starting keeper Morgan Kinyon (Stockton, Calif./Oakdale) wasn’t tested often, making just two saves on the day.
Junior Jess Skovira (Scottdale, Pa./Southmoreland) led the Presidents by registering four shots, two of which were on goal. After being held off the scoresheet, senior Holly Shipley’s (Scottdale, Pa./Southmoreland) point streak of six consecutive games came to an end.
Washington & Jefferson returns to Alexandre Stadium Tuesday night (Oct. 8) at 7:00 pm for another PAC contest against Saint Vincent.
