Titans Strike Early During 3-0 PAC Win Over Presidents
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Three different Titans scored goals to help Westminster end a three-game losing streak to Washington & Jefferson following a 3-0 PAC men's soccer shutout of the Presidents on Wednesday afternoon.
Westminster (8-2-1, 2-0 PAC) had not defeated W&J (2-5-2, 0-1-1 PAC) since the 2009 regular season.
Ethan McCarthy opened the scoring in the ninth minute after redirecting home a pass from Ryan Francis. Westminster took a 2-0 lead into halftime after Austin Ewers netted an unassisted goal in the 30th minute.
Marcel Howard added an insurance goal with 17 minutes remaining. Adam Kephart snared four saves for the Titans, who held advantages in shots (12-9) and corner kicks (4-3).
Sophomore Jon Best (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin), this week's PAC Goalkeeper/Defensive Player of the Week, made one save in 77 minutes of action and allowed all three Titan goals.
The Presidents look to get in the conference win column for the first time in 2012 on Saturday when hosting Saint Vincent at Alexandre Stadium at 3:30 pm.
