Tyler Berger Earns Spot on NWCA Scholar All-America Team

WASHINGTON, Pa. –  Washington & Jefferson College sophomore Tyler Berger (New Kensington, Pa./Burrell) was named Wednesday, March 16 to the National Wrestling Coaches Association Division III Scholar All-America Team.

A total of 166 wrestlers from NCAA Division III programs were selected for the national academic team.

Berger, who wrestled this season in the 149 and 157 pound weight classes, is the ninth W&J wrestler since 1986 to earn a spot on the NWCA Scholar Team.  Greg Ferraro was the first in 1986.

A cell and molecular biology major, Berger has produced a 3.39 grade-point average.  He posted a 16-10 record this winter and was the Presidents’ Athletic Conference runner-up at 149 pounds.

As a freshman, Berger notched a 24-16 record with four falls.

Berger helped W&J record a 6-3-1 dual-meet mark this season, stretching the program’s streak of consecutive winning seasons to three.
