Underclassmen Lead Presidents to First PAC Volleyball Win

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Sophomore middle hitter Megan Lewandowski (Indiana, Pa./Indiana) totaled 10 kills and six blocks to lead Washington & Jefferson to a 3-1 (23-25, 25-23, 25-22, 25-20) Presidents’ Athletic Conference volleyball victory over local rival Waynesburg on Thursday evening as the Henry Memorial Center.

The Presidents (6-10, 1-5 PAC) picked up their first league win, snapped a four-match losing streak and avenged a 3-2 loss to the Yellow Jackets just five days ago.  Waynesburg’s record dropped to 8-7 overall and 2-5 in the PAC.

Sophomore outside hitter Rachel Wallace (Apollo, Pa./Kiski) and freshman middle hitter Lindsey Bennett (Pittsburgh, Pa./Brentwood) led the team with 11-kill performances.  Bennett also notched four blocks.

Freshman setter Megan Stoehr (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) dished out 39 assists and picked up 13 digs.  Sophomore outside hitter Samantha Chorney (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic) added 22 digs, five kills and three blocks.

The senior duo of Tessa Slifka (Latrobe, Pa./Derry Area) and Alyssa Vukson (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) spearheaded the Presidents’ defensive effort.  Vukson racked up 18 digs, while Slifka recorded 14.

W&J continues its home schedule on Saturday when hosting Thiel and Chatham for a PAC tri-match at noon.  The Presidents and Tomcats will play the first match of the day.
