Volleyball Sweeps La Roche at Home
WASHINGTON, Pa. – On Thursday night at the Henry Memorial Center, the Washington & Jefferson College volleyball team swept non-conference foe La Roche in straight sets (25-20, 25-11, 25-19) for the second time this season.
The Presidents (11-4), who finished the non-conference portion of their schedule with a perfect 8-0 record, were led on offense by junior Lindsey Bennett's (Pittsburgh, Pa./Brentwood) eight kills. Bennett notched a solid night defensively as well, picking up six blocks, four of which were solo efforts.
W&J’s 11 victories this fall already surpassed its win total from the entire 2012 season.
Senior Tori Clark (Fall Branch, Tenn./Sullivan South) finished right behind Bennett by contributing seven kills.
Junior Sarah Stedina (Darlington, Pa./Blackhawk) received the start as the team’s libero and posted 15 digs and three service aces against the Red Hawks (12-11). Setter duo Megan Stoehr (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) and Michealia Skleres (Andover, Ohio/Pymatuning Valley) combined for 22 assists, with Stoehr dishing out 10 and Skleres notching 12.
La Roche’s Tori Pernell registered a match-high nine kills.
Washington & Jefferson heads to Grove City this Saturday (Oct. 12) for a pair of Presidents’ Athletic Conference matches against the Wolverines and the Saint Vincent Bearcats at 11:00 am and 1:00 pm, respectively.
