Wash. & Jeff. Downs Allegheny 14-11 In Meadville
MEADVILLE, Pa. - Senior Brittney Oake (Belle Mead, N.J./Montgomery) and junior Brittany Fradkin (Owings Mills, Md./St. Paul's School for Girls) both scored five goals to help Washington & Jefferson outlast Allegheny 14-11 in women's lacrosse action Wednesday night.
The Presidents (7-3) defeated the Gators for the second time in the past three seasons. Oake scored three times in the first 11 minutes to give W&J a 4-1 lead. Senior Lauren Novak's (Wexford, Pa./Pine-Richland) goal with 43 seconds left before halftime put the Presidents ahead 7-4 at the break.
Fradkin upped the advantage to four one minute into the second half, but the Gators (6-4) responded with four of the next five goals to narrow the deficit to 9-8 with 17:48 remaining.
Oake ended the Gators' spurt four minutes later and Novak followed with a goal at the 11:31 mark. Allegheny answered 46 seconds later; however, Fradkin fired home two more goals around a tally by freshman Stephanie Kapuschansky (Williamsburg, Va./York) and W&J hung on for its second-straight win.
Sophomore goalie Julia McLellan (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) totaled 13 saves for the Presidents, who were outshot by a 30-28 margin. Oake added two assists for a seven-point night, while Novak produced two goals and one assist. Kapuschansky notched a pair of goals.
Kelley Dickson and Brennan Maine both recorded hat tricks to lead the Gators.
Washington & Jefferson has 10 days off before returning to action at Alexandre Stadium on April 14 versus Ohio Wesleyan.
