Waynesburg Tops W&J 29-13 In PAC Wrestling

WAYNESBURG, Pa. -- Washington & Jefferson won three of the first five matches, but Waynesburg closed with five-straight triumphs and earned a 29-13 PAC wrestling victory on Tuesday night at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse.

The Presidents (1-5, 0-2 PAC) recorded wins at 125, 141 and 157 pounds.  Freshman Jacob Spearman (Lancaster, Ohio/Lancaster) opened the match with an 11-0 major decision over WU's Gordan Bieber at 125 pounds.  Spearman is now 14-2 during his first collegiate season.

Freshman Trevor Meyers (Saint Thomas, Pa./James Buchanon) earned the comeback win of the night at 141 pounds.  Waynesburg's Jake Vitolo appeared to be cruising to a 10-0 win; however, Meyers turned the momentum and pinned Vitolo at the 6:26 mark to give the Presidents a 10-5 advantage.

Two matches later, junior Josh Etzel (Elizabeth, Pa./Elizabeth-Forward) edged Sam Lombardo by a 5-2 margin for the final W&J victory of the evening.  Etzel improved his season record to 19-3.
