Waynesburg Upsets W&J In PAC Semis

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Fourth-seeded Waynesburg upset the top-seeded Washington & Jefferson women’s soccer team 1-0 in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Championship Tournament semifinals on Tuesday night at Alexandre Stadium.
With the loss, the Presidents (14-4-1, 8-0-1) saw their school-record, 1- game unbeaten streak (12-0-1) come to an end. The Yellow Jackets (15-4-1, 5-3-1) advance to play No. 2 Thomas More in the PAC Championship game on Saturdathis weekend. The Saints defeated Grove City 2-0 earlier in the day.
The game’s lone goal was scored in the 23rd minute, as Susie Godwin received a pass from Courtney Ebersole and found net, just inside the left post.
W&J attempted 17 shots to Waynesburg’s five; however, both teams put three on net. The Presidents held a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Junior Hannah Shaner (Elizabeth, Pa./Elizabeth Forward) paced W&J with two shots on goal. Senior goalkeeper Stephanie Saussol (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) made two saves.
The loss ends W&J's three-year run as Presidents' Athletic Conference champions.
