Willison and Magdic Selected To CWPA All-Tournament Team
BALTIMORE, Md. -- Two Washington & Jefferson College men’s water polo student-athletes, junior Mike Magdic (Franklin Park, Pa./North Allegheny) and freshman Nick Willison (Rockford, Mich./Rockford), were selected to the 2013 CWPA Division III Championship All-Tournament Team on Sunday. Both players were first-team honorees.
The W&J duo helped lead the Presidents (13-14) to a third-place finish at the championship tournament. W&J has reached 13 victories for just the third time in program history.
During an 18-9 victory over Connecticut College on Sunday in the third-place match, Willison set a school record with 10 goals. Willison finished the tournament with 23 goals in four matches to up his season total to 65.
Magdic racked up 11 goals during the tournament and has compiled 69 during the fall. Last year, Magdic totaled 71 goals and he will enter the Southern Division Championships (Nov. 8-10 at Navy) with 167 career goals.
Both players are in position to break the single-season school record set by W&J Athletic Hall of Famer Nemanja Kuzmanovic. Kuzmanovic had 76 goals and 25 assists during the 2002 season and finished with record-breaking career with 287 goals.
Johns Hopkins’ Erik Henrikson was named tournament MVP, while Blue Jay Head Coach Ted Bresnahan was chosen as Outstanding Coach after leading JHU to the title.
