Winning Streak Continues For W&J Water Polo
ERIE, Pa. -- Washington & Jefferson ran its women's water polo winning streak to four on Saturday after defeating Utica (17-6) and Connecticut College (10-8) at Penn State-Behrend.
The Presidents (4-14) had nine different goal scorers in the victory over the Pioneers, including three-goal efforts from junior Catherine Villa (Poway, Calif./Poway) and freshmen Rachel Clauss (South Pasadena, Calif./South Pasadena) and Allison Rocha (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln Way West).
Junior Kelsey Leis (Flourtown, Pa./Springfield Township) and sophomore Sara Boldt (Grand Haven, Mich./East Kentwood) both added two, while junior Dana Wieber (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) and freshmen Gabrielle Addison (Plano, Texas/Plano West), Gabriele Rodriguez (Burbank, Calif/Burbank) and Aly Fishbough (Exeter, Calif./Exeter Union) all notched one.
Senior McKenzie Graf (Mechanicburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) and sophomore Charlotte Lima (Brooklyn, N.Y./Choate Rosemary Hall) both stopped four shots in goal.
W&J raced out a 4-1 lead after the first quarter versus Connecticut College and held on for the two-goal triumph. Junior Margot Wummer (Havertown, Pa./Germantown Academy) paced the Presidents with three goals.
Leis found the back of the cage twice, while Rocha, Boldt, Clauss, Villa and Wieber all contributed one goal. Lima starred in the goal with eight saves and five steals.
W&J wraps up league play in Erie tomorrow versus the host Lions of Penn State-Behrend at 11:40 am.
