Wittenberg Edges W&J Women’s Lacrosse 8-5
WASHINGTON, Pa. – Logan Warye and Alie Marousek both recorded three goals to help Wittenberg defeat Washington & Jefferson 8-5 in women’s lacrosse action on Sunday afternoon at Alexandre Stadium.
The Tigers (3-2) never trailed after posting a 3-0 lead in the first 17 minutes. W&J (2-6) responded with goals from freshman midfielder Diana Harvey (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) and senior midfielder Kelsey Kraus (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) 2:36 apart; however, Wayre’s goal 50 seconds before halftime put the Tigers ahead 4-2 at the break.
Wittenberg assumed control of the match with the first three goals of the second half. W&J scored three of the final four goals, including a pair by senior midfielder Brittany Fradkin (Owings Mills, Md./St. Paul’s School for Girls), but the Presidents ran out of time.
Senior goalie Julia McLellan (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) kept the Presidents in the game by making 14 saves. W&J was outshot 27-22, but held a slim 8-7 edge in draw controls. Freshman midfielder Alex Dikos (Mohnton, Pa./Governor Mifflin) netted the Presidents’ only other goal.
Katie Bondy made 11 saves for Wittenberg, seven of which came in the final 30 minutes.
The Presidents begin a two-game road swing on Wednesday night at Denison (6:00 pm).
