W&J’s Bethany Haver Selected As PAC Swimmer/Diver Of Week

WASHINGTON, Pa. --  Washington & Jefferson College two-time NCAA Division III All-America senior Bethany Haver (Akron, Ohio/Harvey S. Firestone) was selected as the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Swimmer/Diver of the Week on Tuesday. Haver earns her fourth career PAC weekly award.  She has been selected once during all four years of her career.

Haver continued to etch her name into record books Saturday during a dual meet at Grove City College.  She posted record-setting performances and qualified for the 2012 NCAA Division III Championships in the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events.  Despite Haver’s record-breaking afternoon, the Presidents dropped a 157-131 decision to the Wolverines which snapped W&J’s school-record tying, dual-meet win streak at 23.

On an 11-dive list, Haver notched 461.77 points on the 1-meter board which set conference, school and Grove City pool records.  Through six dives, Haver had amassed 266.32 points which is another NCAA-qualifying mark.

At three meters, she collected 443.55 points (11 dives) which established the conference record.

On Wednesday, Haver led W&J to a double-dual sweep of Bethany and Franciscan by recording an 11-dive total of 428.00 points on the 1-meter board.  That point total was another provisional qualifying total for the national championships.

Haver is undefeated in diving competitions this season and appears ready to make another run at the national championships which will be held Mar. 21-25 in Indianapolis, Ind.  Last year, Haver placed fifth on the 3-meter board and seventh at one-meter at the NCAA championship event.

A five-time Presidents’ Athletic Conference champion, Haver will look to add her sixth and seventh league titles on Feb. 15-18 at Grove City.

W&J returns to dual-meet action on Saturday when it hosts Penn State-Behrend at 1:00 pm at the Henry Memorial Natatorium.
