W&J And Mount Union Play To Scoreless Draw

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson College men’s soccer team and the University of Mount Union battled to a 0-0 non-conference draw at Alexandre Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore Jon Best (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) and freshman Josh Winters (Mocksville, N.C./Calvary Baptist Day) combined on a shutout in net for the Presidents (0-3-1). Best stopped three shots in 73 minutes of action, while Winters made two saves in 37 minutes. 

Goalkeeper Jon Critell posted three saves for the Purple Raiders (2-2-1).  Joey Trocchio paced the team with two shots on goal.

Sophomore forward Brian Hanna (Allison Park, Pa./Shaler Area) recorded the top scoring chance during the game when he ripped a shot that went sailing just inches over the cross bar during the 20th minute.

Both teams attempted just one shot during 20 minutes of overtime play.

W&J will travel to Pittsburgh to face seventh-ranked Carnegie Mellon on Tuesday at 7:00 pm.
