W&J and Saint Vincent Split PAC Swim Meet
LATROBE, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson College men’s swimming & diving team defeated Saint Vincent 151-140, but the Presidents’ women were nipped by one point 147-146 on Wednesday evening in Latrobe.
The W&J men improved their record to 5-2 overall and 2-2 in the PAC, while the women’s squad’s overall record fell to 5-3 (2-3 PAC).
Highlighting the men’s victory was senior Joey Weiland’s (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) three first-place finishes. He helped the 200 medley relay to an opening win in 1:42.28 before claiming the 100 (57.18) and 200 (2:09.98) backstroke events.
Senior Patrick O’Toole (Butler, Pa./Fox Chapel) also won the 200 IM (2:04.61) for the Presidents.
The women’s squad was paced by triple winner, sophomore Jessica Sweitzer (Laurel, Md./Seton Keough), and double winner, senior Jami Andrews (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield).
Sweitzer set pool records during her victories in the 100 (54.87) and 200 (1:58.46) freestyle events. She also touched first in the 500 freestyle (5:33.26). Andrews was victorious in the 100 backstroke (1:12.75) and 200 IM (2:20.81).
Junior Margot Wummer (Havertown, Pa./Germantown) earned the women’s squad only other victory, topping the 200 breaststroke field in 2:42.07.
W&J steps out of conference dual meet action on Saturday when traveling to Erie to battle Penn State-Behrend (1:00 pm).
