W&J Baseball Moves Up In National Rankings
W&J (27-6, 18-3) is coming off a 2-1 week in which it set new single-season school and Presidents’ Athletic Conference records with its 17th league victory by downing Thiel and Grove City in conference action.
The Presidents also secured the PAC regular-season title for the sixth time in nine seasons under the guidance of Head Coach Jeff Mountain and the right to host next week’s conference tournament (May 10-12) at Ross Memorial Park.
W&J opened a slate of eight games this week with a doubleheader split with Grove City on Monday. The Wolverines rallied from a 9-2 deficit for an 11-9 win in game one, but the Presidents responded with an 8-6 victory during the nightcap. W&J collected 23 hits, all singles, during the two games led by four each from senior shortstop Aaron Klinec (North Olmsted, Ohio/St. Ignatius) and sophomore first baseman D.J. Michalski (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan).
The Presidents travel to Frostburg State for a 4:00 pm matchup on Tuesday before returning home for a doubleheader with Mount Union on Wednesday (4:00 pm). The Purple Raiders are ranked fifth in the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional poll.
