W&J Baseball Nationally Ranked In Two Preseason Polls

WASHINGTON, Pa. – Coming off one of the best seasons in school history, the Washington & Jefferson College baseball team is ranked 21st in the D3baseball.com preseason poll. W&J also debuted at No. 20 in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper preseason rankings in December.

The Presidents are ranked in D3baseball.com’s preseason top 25 for the first time in school history.

Last season, W&J established school records for victories (36) and conference wins (21) and were ranked 20th in the final D3baseball.com poll. It was the first time in program history that the team finished a season ranked among the nation’s top 25 teams.

Head Coach Jeff Mountain begins his 11th season in Washington with 16 letter winners returning from a team that advanced to the NCAA Division III Tournament for the third time in history. All three tournament berths have come during Mountain’s tenure. He needs 30 wins to reach 300 for his career.

W&J opens the season with a three-game series against Presidents’ Athletic Conference opponent Bethany. The teams play a doubleheader at Bethany Park on March 9 and will complete the series in Washington the following day.
