W&J Baseball Ranked Second In Mideast Region
WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College baseball team is ranked second in the first NCAA Division III Mideast Region poll released on Thursday.
The Presidents (25-5, 16-2) lead the Presidents’ Athletic Conference by four games and are ranked in the D3baseball.com (19) and the ABCA/Collegiate Baseball (21) national polls.
Marietta is the top-ranked team in the Mideast Region, followed by W&J, DePauw, Adrian, Mount Union, Anderson (Ind.) and Rose-Hulman.
W&J dropped a 9-5 decision at Marietta earlier this spring and will host a key non-conference doubleheader against Mount Union on May 2.
The Presidents are enjoying one of the finest seasons in school history under ninth-year Head Coach Jeff Mountain. W&J’s 25 wins this spring are the sixth-highest total all-time. With six PAC games remaining, the team needs just one more league victory to set single-season school and conference records with its 17th win.
The Presidents earned a NCAA regional ranking for the sixth time in the past seven seasons (2006, 2007, 2009-2012). In 2010, W&J was the top-ranked team during the initial regional rankings.
W&J opens a three-game series versus Grove City at Ross Memorial Park on Friday at 4:30 pm.
