W&J Baseball Ranked In Two National Polls
WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College baseball team is ranked 21st in the American Baseball Coaches Association/Collegiate Baseball Division III poll released on Tuesday.
The Presidents (24-4, 15-2) also moved up six spots to No. 19 in the newest D3Baseball.com rankings released this week.
W&J is coming off a 5-0 week after taking a home doubleheader with Thiel and sweeping a three-game set with second place Westminster. The Presidents have won eight-straight games overall and lead the Presidents’ Athletic Conference by four games.
W&J is 3-1 against squads currently ranked in the top 25, having defeated No. 15 Wisc-Stevens Point and No. 22 Trinity (Conn.) twice in Florida, before falling 9-5 at top-ranked Marietta on Apr. 9.
The Presidents are enjoying one of the best regular seasons in school history under the leadership of ninth-year Head Coach Jeff Mountain. The team’s 24 victories are the sixth-highest, single-season total all-time at W&J. The Presidents lead the league with a 3.16 team ERA and rank second with a .318 batting average and .965 fielding percentage. Mountain owns a 258-151-1 (.650) record since his arrival in at W&J in 2003.
W&J hosts Muskingum in a non-conference matchup today at Ross Memorial Park at 4:00 pm.
