W&J BOWS OUT OF PAC MEN’S TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIP IN DAY ONE
ERIE, Pa. — The Washington & Jefferson College men’s tennis team had its 2011 season come to an end on Friday after dropping all six singles and three doubles matches in the first day of the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Championships at the Pennbriar Athletic Club.
Senior Brian Felker (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) played the Presidents’ most competitive individual match at No. 4 singles, but the bracket’s No. 5 seed was eventually defeated by fourth-seeded Brad Schell of Thiel by a 7-5, 6-1 margin.
Felker also teamed with classmate Adam Braithwaite (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) to provide the Presidents’ only match points in doubles play. The senior duo was seeded seventh in the No. 3 flight and suffered an 8-2 loss to Westminster’s second-seeded team of Ryan Carr and Sean Black.
The tournament runs all day Friday and concludes on Saturday in Erie. W&J finishes eighth in the team standings.
