W&J Cruises Past Chatham In PAC Opener

 WASHINGTON, Pa. - Led by a suffocating defensive effort, the Washington & Jefferson College women’s basketball team dispatched of Chatham 87-49 in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference opener for both squads on Wednesday night at the Henry Memorial Center.

W&J scored 38 points off of 35 Cougar turnovers.  All 12 Presidents recorded at least one steal, led by freshman Alex Del Greco (Pittsburgh, Pa./Seton La Salle), who recorded six and senior Vanessa Rivera (Reading, Pa./Wilson) and junior Kara Seamon (Morgantown, W.Va./University), both of whom tallied five swipes.  Rivera added six points and seven assists.

W&J (3-2) extended its all-time record against the Cougars (2-3) to 18-0.  Its 38-point margin of victory is the largest in the series since 1998.

Senior Ashley Kirkpatrick (Sharon, Pa./Kennedy Catholic) led three Presidents in double-figure scoring with 14 points on 7-9 shooting.  She added four rebounds and three assists.

Del Greco recorded a career-high 10 points, along with three assists and three rebounds, while sophomore Alexa Burzese (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) hit a trio of three pointers and tallied 13 points.

Freshman Valerie Dunlap (Hostetter, Pa./Latrobe) came off the bench and pulled down 12 rebounds while adding six blocks and six points in 18 minutes of action.

W&J travels to Greenville on Saturday for a 1:00 pm matchup with Thiel.
