W&J Defense Blanks Fighting Scots During 1-0 Win
WOOSTER, Ohio -- The Washington & Jefferson College field hockey defense held the College of Wooster to only a pair of shots and junior midfielder Catherine Beaudoin (Barkhamsted, Conn./North Western Regional) scored the lone goal as the Presidents notched a 1-0 victory Wednesday night at John P. Papp Stadium.
W&J (5-2) outshot Wooster (2-3) by an 8-2 margin and did not allow a shot attempt until 53 minutes had expired off the clock. Sophomore Morgan Brozena (Telford, Pa./Souderton) only had to make one save to preserve the shutout. Both Wooster shots came on the same sequence, a mere four seconds apart.
The Presidents' goal was scored 10 minutes into the second half as Beaudoin stole a pass near the circle and beat Wooster goalie Meredith Farley to the lower right of the cage. Farley finished the match with eight saves.
W&J returns home Saturday for a 1:00 pm match with Houghton. Houghton is a member of the Empire 8, but its games do not count in conference standings as HC is in a transitional NCAA Division III period following its move from NAIA.
