W&J Defense Clamps Down On Bobcats During 2-0 Shutout

WASHINGTON, Pa.. – Senior forward Jennifer Marabella (Sinking Spring, Pa./Holy Name) and sophomore defender Gina Taglieri (Huntington Beach, Calif./Huntington Beach) both scored goals to lead Washington & Jefferson College to a 2-0 non-conference field hockey victory over Frostburg State University on Tuesday evening at Cameron Stadium.

The Presidents (6-4) held the Bobcats (5-8) to three shots on goal which were all stopped by freshman goalie Kira Bunker (Magnolia, Del./Polytech).

W&J scored once in each half.  Following a penalty corner, Marabella received quick passes from senior midfielder Erin Barno (Camp Hill, Pa./Cedar Cliff) and junior defender Tori Patrick (State College, Pa./State College) for the opening goal at the 12:26 mark.

The lead remained that way until Taglieri broke through the FSU defense just under seven minutes into the second half and scored her first collegiate goal.

The Presidents, who outshot FSU by a 15-5 overall margin, return to Empire 8 Conference play on Saturday when hosting Utica at noon.
