W&J Downed By Geneseo In Double Overtime
GENESEO, N.Y – Rachel Atkins’ penalty-stroke goal gave SUNY-Geneseo a 1-0 double-overtime victory over Washington & Jefferson College in non-conference field hockey action from Merritt Field in New York on Sunday.
W&J, which had its five-match road winning streak halted, saw its record drop to 9-6 overall (4-2 Empire 8), while Geneseo upped its record to 9-4. Freshman goalkeeper Kira Bunker (Magnolia, Del./Polytech) made four saves in over 87 minutes of action.
Senior Amanda Pflumm (Shoreham, N.Y./Shoreham Wading River), junior Tori Patrick (State College, Pa./State College) and sophomore Catherine Beaudoin (Barkhamsted, Conn./ North Western Regional) all recorded one shot on goal for the Presidents.
Atkins’ goal, which came just over two minutes into the second overtime period, was her third of the fall. Blue Knights’ goalkeeper Dayna Mercer turned away three shots to earn the victory in net.
W&J opens a three-match home stand on Wednesday against Bethany (7:00 pm). The Presidents defeated the Bison 10-1 earlier this fall in West Virginia.
