W&J Downs Franklin; Falls To Thomas More
Crestview Hills, Ky. – After dropping a PAC match 3-0 (11-25, 14-25, 16-25) to Thomas More, the Washington & Jefferson College volleyball team rebounded to defeat Franklin 3-0 (25-12, 25-17, 25-20) on Saturday afternoon in Kentucky. W&J’s record now stands at 6-4 overall and 1-3 in Presidents’ Athletic Conference play.
Freshman Nicole Bishwaty (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) tallied five digs and one block against the Saints and added eight kills and a pair of aces during the match with Franklin.
Junior Maura Lyle (Elizabeth, Pa./Elizabeth Forward) totaled 17 digs during the two matches. Eight different Presidents recorded at least one block, led by junior middle hitter Lindsey Coffey’s (Brownsville, Pa./Beth-Center) two.
Sophomore Lindsey Bennett (Pittsburgh, Pa.) paced the team with nine kills, while junior Samantha Chorney (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic) added five. Freshman setter Christine Plavchak (Belle Vernon, Pa./Belle Vernon) dished out 22 assists against Franklin and sophomore Megan Stoehr (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) produced 10 against Thomas More.
W&J’s road trip concludes at with a match at Grove City on Tuesday at 6:30 pm.
