W&J Drops Season Opener 3-0
CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Case Western Reserve scored twice in the first 19 minutes and defeated Washington & Jefferson 3-0 in the Presidents' 2012 men's soccer season opener Friday night.
Chris Cvecko scored in the seventh minute and Patrick O'Day followed 11 minutes later for a 2-0 lead which held until halftime. Kostis Theoharides headed home the only goal of the second half in the 64th minute.
CWRU outshot 16-6 and held a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks. Junior Cody Peddicord (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) led W&J with three shots.
Ryan Koepka made all three saves to earn the shutout. Sophomore Jon Best (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) stopped three shots for the Presidents in the loss.
W&J returns to action on Wednesday at Carlisle, Pa., when facing Dickinson at 5:00 pm.
