W&J Earns Key Senior Day PAC Volleyball Win
WASHINGTON, Pa. -- For the second-straight match, senior outside hitter Samantha Chorney (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic) fueled the Presidents’ offense with 14 kills as Washington & Jefferson evened the season PAC volleyball series with Grove City following a 3-0 victory (25-18, 26-24, 25-21) on Senior Day Saturday at the Henry Memorial Center.
The Presidents (14-9, 6-9 PAC) tied the Wolverines (13-13, 6-9 PAC) for the sixth and final spot in the upcoming PAC Tournament. W&J’s 14 victories are the most by the program since the 2009 Presidents finished with a 16-16 record.
Chorney added five digs for the Presidents, who also received nine kills, nine digs, three blocks and three assists from junior right-side hitter Nicole Bishwaty (Allentown, Pa./Parkland). Freshman outside hitter Taylor Freeman (Cresson, Pa./Penn-Cambria) added seven kills.
Junior libero Sarah Stedina (Darlington, Pa./Blackhawk) and freshman defensive specialist Allison Means (Connellsville, Pa./Connellsville) both recorded 10 digs, while freshman setter Michealia Skleres (Andover, Ohio/Pymatuning Valley) notched 21 assists and four digs. Junior middle hitter Lindsey Bennett (Pittsburgh, Pa./Brentwood) totaled seven blocks (one solo).
W&J hopes to keep its PAC Tournament hopes alive Tuesday night when traveling to league-leading Bethany (7:00 pm).
