W&J Earns Two PAC Victories
LATROBE, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson College volleyball team collected a pair of Presidents' Athletic Conference victories on Saturday as it defeated Waynesburg 3-0 (25-19, 25-13, 25-20) and Saint Vincent 3-1 (17-25, 25-23, 25-22, 26-24) in Latrobe.
With the victories, W&J (9-9, 3-8) ended a seven-match PAC losing skid, while also surpassing its win total from the entire 2011 season.
Sophomore Lindsey Bennett (Pittsburgh, Pa./Brentwood) led the Presidents' defense against Waynesburg with seven blocks. Classmate Darby McMullen (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Killbourne) and junior Tori Clark (Fall Branch, Tenn./Sullivan South) added to the defensive effort by collecting three blocks each.
Freshman Courtney Grdina (Stow, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) totaled 26 digs, while classmate Nicole Bishwaty (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) accumulated 25. Bishwaty also added three blocks, six kills and four service aces.
Clark paced the offense with 15 kills against the Yellow Jackets and 12 versus Saint Vincent. Bennett recorded eight kills, while junior Samantha Chorney (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic) added seven.
W&J returns to the Henry Memorial Center on Tuesday to face Grove City at 7:00 pm. The Presidents dropped a five-set road match to the Wolverines earlier this fall.
