W&J Field Hockey Earns Fifth-Straight Road Win
WASHINGTON, Pa.. – Seniors Erin Barno (Camp Hill, Pa./Cedar Cliff) and Jennifer Marabella (Sinking Spring, Pa./Holy Name) both recorded second-half goals to lift the Washington & Jefferson College field hockey team to a 2-0 victory at Houghton on Saturday.
The Presidents (9-5, 4-2 Empire 8) have won five consecutive road matches and are 7-1 away from Cameron Stadium this fall. The team’s seven road victories already tie a school record (2007, 2011).
After a scoreless first half, Barno put W&J on the board with a penalty stroke goal in the 41st minute.
Marabella collected a feed from senior Arielle King (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) and found the back of the cage 16 minutes later to provide the final margin.
Freshman Kira Bunker (Magnolia, Del./Polytech) earned her second shutout by stopping three shots. Houghton (6-5, 2-4) goalkeeper Hillery Duman blocked a pair of shots in the loss.
W&J continues its weekend trip through New York on Sunday when facing SUNY-Geneseo at noon.
