W&J Holds On To Beat PSU-Behrend

Washington, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson men’s water polo team denied Penn State-Behrend’s fourth-quarter comeback attempt and downed the Lions 7-6 at the Henry Memorial Natatorium on Saturday night.
Penn State-Behrend jumped out to an early 2-0 lead but W&J (5-7) ran off a string of seven consecutive goals to take a commanding five-goal lead.
The Presidents were led by freshman Carl Krause (Ambler, Pa./Wissahickon) who tallied four goals, along with two assists and three steals. Junior Cameron Chaves (La Canada, Calif./La Canada) added two goals, while junior Alex Shuey (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) notched one score.
The Lions put together a late rally to close the W&J lead to just one in the fourth quarter, but the Presidents’ defense held strong. Junior Mike Johnson (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) led W&J defensively with four steals.
The Presidents are back at Henry Memorial Natatorium Sunday at noon when they face Salem International.
