W&J Men’s Golf Wins Rossin Memorial At Southpointe

CANONSBURG, Pa. –  Washington & Jefferson College shot a second-day score of 312 Monday to win its own tournament, the 2012 Peter C. Rossin Memorial, at Southpointe Golf Club.

The Presidents carded a two-day total of 632 (320-312) to win the eighth annual tournament by 11 strokes over Point Park (320-323). Penn State-Behrend (328-326) was third with 654 shots followed by Saint Vincent (656), Columbus State Community College (660) and La Roche (681). 

Adam Jeffery of Division II California (Pa.) won medalist honors with a 36-hole, two-over par total of 146 (71-75).  He was competing as an individual. 

Freshman Evan Lestini (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) was second in the 36-player field and led the Presidents with 152 strokes (75-77).  Sophomore Ryan Mazza (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) tied for fourth place with 156 strokes (79-77), while classmate Matt Long (East Stroudsburg, Pa./Notre Dame) tied for sixth with 157 (81-76). 

Junior Colin Izzo (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) notched 167 strokes (85-82) and placed 21st, while freshman Tim Novic (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) was 27th with 177 shots (92-85). 

Washington & Jefferson College wraps up its fall season on Oct. 15-16 at the Waterville Collegiate Classic in Ireland.
