W&J Opens Division III Water Polo Championships With Victory

Erie, Pa. --  The Washington & Jefferson College men’s water polo team defeated Connecticut College 11-9 on Saturday afternoon in the semifinals of the CWPA Division III Eastern Water Polo Championships hosted at Penn State-Behrend.

W&J (7-7) jumped out to a 4-0 lead after to the first quarter and was able to hold on for the victory. 

Junior Cameron Chaves (La Canada, Calif./La Canada) led the W&J offense with three goals, while eight other Presidents tallied one score each.

Freshman goalkeeper Chris DeNunzio (Greenwich, Conn./Canterbury) was solid in net, making 10 saves.  DeNunzio played two quarters and allowed just one score.

W&J will face Johns Hopkins at 6:00 pm for the CWPA Division III Eastern Championship.
