W&J Opens PAC Play With Fifth Consecutive Win

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson College women’s soccer team picked up its fifth win in a row and began Presidents’ Athletic Conference play with a 5-1 Saturday morning victory at Geneva.

Senior goalkeeper Stephanie Saussol (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) stopped two shots to earn the win in net. The Presidents (7-3, 1-0) have now won three consecutive matches against the Golden Tornadoes (4-6-1, 0-1).

Junior Chrissy Marcius (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) scored her third goal of the season off a pass from freshman Jess Skovira (Scottdale, Pa./Southmoreland) to give the Presidents a 1-0 halftime lead.

Sophomore Nikki Hladik (Renfrew, Pa./Butler) scored 75 seconds into the second half to up the W&J advantage to 2-0.  Junior Holly Shipley (Scottdale, Pa./Southmoreland) increased that lead with a goal just over two minutes later.

Skovira added a late goal to match her career-best, three-point day.  Junior Dawn Murphy (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) capped the scoring for the Presidents with her fourth goal of the season.

W&J returns to Alexandre Stadium on Wednesday to face Westminster at 5:00 pm.
