W&J Posts Four Winners At Home Invite
WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Washington & Jefferson College hosted its annual track & field invitational Saturday at Cameron Stadium. The Presidents placed second in both team competitions. Carnegie Mellon won the men's team title, while Division II Slippery Rock claimed the women's team championship.
The Presidents were led by meet-record breaking performances by senior Taylor Hockman (Martinsburg, W.Va./Hedgesville) and Kristen Galligan (Frederick, Md./Governor Thomas Johnson). Hockman was victorious and set meet records in the long jump (23'0") and triple jump (45'0 1/4") events, while also earning runner-up laurels in the 100 meters (11.38). Galligan established a meet record during her win in the 5,000 meters (18:16.83) after winning the 1,500 meters (4:55.48).
Sophomores Cheyenne Mangold (Boerne, Texas/Texas Military Institute) and Meghan Poinsett (Salem, N.J./Salem) also won titles. Mangold was victorious in the 400 meters (1:00.94), while Poinsett claimed the 400-meter hurdles (1:06.50). Mangold also placed fifth in the 800 meters (2:24.26).
Mangold, Poinsett, senior C.J. Corcoran (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) and sophomore Laura Lee (Spartansburg, Pa./Titusville) combined to tie for second place in the 4x400 relay (4:13.75). Corcoran also was the runner-up in the javelin (114'0") and fourth in the 200 meters (27.61). Lee took fourth in the 100 meters (13.62).
Sophomore Erin Oberg (Beaver Falls, Pa./Riverside) recorded a third-place finish in the high jump (5'0 1/4") and an eighth-place showing in the triple jump (32'0").
The W&J men also received a third-place showing from junior Gavin Donathan (Hurricane, W.Va./Hurricane) in the shot put (46'11 3/4"). He also placed sixth in the discus (135'9"). Senior Greg French (Buffalo, N.Y./Williamsville East) was second in the 110-meter hurdles (16.05) and fifth in the triple jump (41'7").
