W&J Salvages Split in New Wilmington
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson College volleyball team suffered a 3-1 PAC loss to Westminster (25-23, 17-25, 11-25, 10-25), but bounced back to defeat La Roche by the same 3-1 margin (18-25, 25-11, 25-20, 25-16) on Wednesday evening in a tri-match at Buzz Ridl Gymnasium.
In the win over the Redhawks, the Presidents (5-7, 0-3 PAC) were led by freshman Lindsey Bennett's (Pittsburgh, Pa./Brentwood) 11 kills and four blocks. Classmate Elizabeth Geandreau (Batavia, N.Y./Notre Dame) added five kills, while sophomore Madison Rotto (Freeport, Pa./Freeport) totaled 28 assists, seven digs and three service aces.
Senior Tessa Slifka (Latrobe, Pa./Derry Area) paced the defense with 19 digs.
Bennett posted seven kills, four blocks and two aces in the loss to the Titans. Sophomore Samantha Chorney (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic) notched 14 digs and six kills and Rotto dished out 24 assists, while also producing four kills.
W&J travels to West Virginia Saturday for a PAC tri-match with Bethany (11:00 am) and Waynesburg (1:00 pm).
