W&J Scores Quickly; Defeats Pitt-Greensburg 3-0
WASHINGTON, Pa. - Washington & Jefferson sophomore forward Paul Hann (Columbia, S.C./Spring Valley) scored 14 seconds following the start of the match and the Presidents added a second goal two minutes later during a 3-0 men’s soccer victory at Pitt-Greensburg on Tuesday afternoon.
Only 18 goals in NCAA Division III history have been scored quicker than Hann’s early tally. Stuart Hulke of Roger Williams (1999) and Will Van Hoppen (2010) of Clark (Mass.) own the national record after scoring four seconds into the start of the game.
After Hann’s goal, senior forward Cody Peddicord (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) set up sophomore forward Adam Suter (Butler, Pa./Butler) for another goal at the 2:45 mark and a 2-0 lead.
The score remained that way until just 2:34 remained in the contest when Suter struck again, this time off an assist from junior forward Brian Hanna (Allison Park, Pa./Shaler Area).
W&J (3-1) held a 15-6 edge in shots, but the Bobcats (0-5) attempted seven of the 10 corner kicks. Junior goalie Jon Best (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) made on first-half save to earn the victory, while classmate Ben Wilt (Butler, Pa./Hampton) recorded two stops in the final 45 minutes.
Washington & Jefferson travels to Maryland on Saturday for a 5:00 pm match with Frostburg State.
