W&J Season Ends In West Virginia
BETHANY, W.Va. – Washington and Jefferson jumped out to an early lead, but Bethany controlled play the rest of the way and earned a 4-1 PAC men’s soccer victory over the Presidents on Saturday afternoon.
The Presidents, who could’ve earned the PAC Tournament’s fourth and final seed with a win, end their season with a 6-11 overall record (3-5 PAC).
Freshman Brian Hanna (Allison Park, Pa./Shaler Area) got W&J off to a quick start with a ninth-minute goal on a hard shot that deflected in off the crossbar.
Lamine Balde tied the match for the Bison (6-11, 4-4 PAC) in the 26th minute and Tomas Gonzalez followed with a goal two minutes later. Dustin Maiolo gave Bethany a 3-1 halftime lead with a goal in the 39th minute.
Balde scored 3:25 into the second half to give the hosts a three-goal cushion. BC outshot the Presidents by a 19-9 margin. Patrick Coleman made four saves in goal for BC, while freshman Ryan Ehrig (Massillon, Ohio/Jackson) took the loss for W&J after making five first-half saves. Freshman Jon Best (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) played the second half for the Presidents.
