W&J Splits Swimming/Diving Meet At Behrend
ERIE, Pa. -- Sophomore Jessica Sweitzer (Laurel, Md./Seton Keough) and senior Jami Andrews (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) teamed for a pair of relay wins, while both also claimed an individual race to lead Washington & Jefferson's 124-71 women's swimming & diving victory over Penn State-Behrend on Saturday at the Junker Center. In men's action, Penn State-Behrend knocked off the Presidents 120-97.
Sweitzer and Andrews set the pace on the 200 medley (1:58.55) and 200 freestyle (1:46.30) relays. Sweitzer also touched first in the 100 freestyle (55.62), while Andrews claimed the 400 IM (5:01.18).
Freshmen Rachel Murphy (Sutherlin, Ore./Roseburg) and Amber Miller (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) both won two events. Miller earned triumphs in the 200 butterfly (2:21.93) and 1,000 freestyle (11:35.31), while Murphy recorded first-place touches in the 200 backstroke (2:20.27) and 200 breaststroke (2:43.70).
Junior Bella Diaz (Walnut Creek, Calif./Las Lomas) and sophomore Charlotte Lima (Brooklyn, N.Y./Choate Rosemary Hall) also earned victories for the W&J women. Diaz notched a time of 5:46.92 in the 500 freestyle and Lima swam the 200 freestyle in 2:11.12.
Three Presidents' men got into the win column, including senior John Szott (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) on the 1-meter diving board (225.00 points). Senior Patrick O'Toole (Butler, Pa./Fox Chapel Area) won the 400 IM (4:28.75), while sophomore Ben Mancini (Oreland, Pa./Springfield Township) breezed past the field in the 500 freestyle (5:09.05).
Washington & Jefferson (6-3 women; 5-3 men) continues its dual-meet slate next Saturday at Hiram (1:00 pm).
