W&J Suffers 64-53 Setback At Juniata

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Four Eagles scored in double figures, led by Alex Raymond’s 16 points, as Juniata earned a 64-53 men’s basketball victory over Washington & Jefferson on Tuesday evening.

Juniata (3-0) limited the Presidents to 30 percent shooting (16-of-54), including only 2-of-13 accuracy from beyond the arc.

The Eagles shot just 30 percent in the first half, but made 5-of-12 three-pointers en route to a 30-24 halftime lead.

Senior guard Zach Bellhy (McDonald, Pa./Fort Cherry) knocked down a three-pointer for the first basket of the second half; however, a 25-7 Eagle run over the next seven minutes proved to be the difference in the game.  Bellhy had the only W&J basket during the JC spurt.

The Eagles led by as many as 23 before the Presidents closed the game on a 14-2 rally in the final 5:39.

Bellhy led the Presidents with 15 points (5-of-15 shooting) and four rebounds.  His brother, sophomore forward Nate Bellhy (McDonald, Pa./Fort Cherry), notched a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds, while freshman guard Nick Martin (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk) added 10 points off the bench.

W&J outrebounded the Eagles 45-36 and only committed 11 turnovers.  W&J also made 19-of-25 free throws.

The Presidents look to get into the win column for the first time on Saturday when hosting Ohio Athletic Conference opponent Muskingum at 2:00 pm.
