W&J Swimming Breezes Past Bethany
BETHANY, W.Va. -- The Washington & Jefferson College swimming & diving teams returned to action for the first time in 2013 Wednesday night and swept Bethany College by scores of 61-48 (men) and 94-79 (women).
The W&J men (4-1, 1-1 PAC) were led by freshman Kevin Dunigan (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn), who claimed the 100 butterfly (59.23) and 100 breaststroke (1:06.10).
Sophomore Mike Magdic (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) won the 100 freestyle (52.03), while freshmen Nicholas Gill (Aurora, Ohio/University School) and Armano Paolino (Middlebury, Conn./Pomperaug Regional) also notched first-place touches. Gill was the winner in the 50 freestyle (23.58), while Paolino posted a time of 1:57.33 in the 200 freestyle
Freshman Jenny Matuszewski (McKees Rocks, Pa./Montour) paced the Presidents' women (5-1, 2-1 PAC) with a victory in the 500 freestyle (5:38.97) as well as being a member of the winning 200 freestyle relay (1:48.12). Sophomore Jessica Sweitzer (Laurel, Md./Seton Keough) also swam on the 200 freestyle relay before taking first in the 1000 freestyle (11:14.79), while junior Zoe Levenson (Pittsburgh, Pa./Allderdice) was a double winner after claiming the 100 butterfly (1:04.19) and swimming a leg on the 200 medley relay (2:00.48).
The Presidents return to the Henry Memorial Natatorium on Saturday for a PAC meet with Grove City (1:00 pm).
