W&J Swimming Duo Earns PAC Weekly Awards

WASHINGTON, Pa. – Washington & Jefferson College seniors Jonathan Weeks (Donora, Pa./Ringgold) and Brittany Vogel (Butler, Pa./Butler) were selected as the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Swimmers of the Week on Monday.

Vogel earns the PAC weekly award for the fifth time in her career.  She was honored twice as a freshman and once during her sophomore and juniors years.  Weeks has been selected by the league in back-to-back years.

The W&J duo helped the Presidents open the 2012 portion of their schedule with a dual-meet sweep of Saint Vincent on Saturday at the Henry Memorial Center.  The women’s team (6-0) stretched its dual-meet win streak to 21 with a 159-114 victory, while the men’s squad (2-3) knocked off the Bearcats by a 156-116 margin.

Weeks, who has earned Second Team All-PAC laurels twice during his career, was a triple winner for the Presidents as he was victorious in the 100 (55.28) and 200 (2:04.11) butterfly events, while also teaming with seniors Keyton Kalakewich (Edwards, Colo./Charleroi) and Andy Rish (North East, Pa./Cathedral Prep) and freshman Ulysses Laman (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) on the winning 200 medley relay (1:41.79) team.

Vogel won three individual events and also helped the 400 freestyle relay team (3:43.21) in the final race.  She touched first in the 100 backstroke (1:02.49), 200 breaststroke (2:29.71) and 200 IM (2:15.23).  She is a three-time First Team All-PAC selection.

W&J is back in action in Washington Wednesday with a dual-meet against Bethany and Franciscan (women only) at 6:00 pm.
