W&J Swimming Earns Road Sweep At Hiram
WASHINGTON, Pa. – Four victories by seniors Jami Andrews (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) and Patrick O’Toole (Butler, Pa./Fox Chapel) highlighted a Washington & Jefferson College swimming team sweep at Hiram on Saturday. The women claimed a 154-112 victory, while the men earned a 166-95 win.
Andrews touched first in both breaststroke events with times of 38.39 in the 50 and 1:20.69 in the 100 meters. She also claimed victory in the 100 IM (1:13.68) and swam a leg of the 200 medley relay that posted the top time of 2:15.68.
O’Toole swept the butterfly events with victories in the 50 (28.08) and 100 (1:02.65) meters, while taking the 100 IM (1:05.05). O’Toole joined sophomore Mike Magdic (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) and freshmen Nicholas Gill (Aurora, Ohio/University School) and Kevin Dunigan (Landsale, Pa./North Penn) on the winning 200 medley relay team (1:59.27).
Dunigan also claimed the 50 breaststroke (33.30) and 100 breaststroke (1:13.39), while Magdic touched first in the 50 backstroke (31.70) and 100 backstroke (1:06.52).
Sophomore Jessica Sweitzer (Laurel, Md./Seton Keough) was a triple winner for the Presidents’ women. She won the 100 (1:01.87) and 200 (2:13.97) and swam a leg for the victorious 200 freestyle relay squad (2:00.87).
Junior Jenna Supp (Holidaysburg, Pa./Holidaysburg) joined Andrews on the winning 200 medley relay team, while also swimming to first in the 50 freestyle (30.32).
W&J hosts NCAA Division II Wheeling Jesuit on Senior Day next Saturday in Washington at 1:00 pm.
