W&J Takes Second At PAC Fall Invitational

WEST MIDDLESEX, Pa. --  Westminster College edged Washington & Jefferson College by two strokes to win the 36-hole Presidents’ Athletic Conference Fall Women’s Golf Invitational on Tuesday at Oak Tree Country Club.

The fall invitational represents the first two legs of the 2012 PAC Championship which is determined by a 72-hole total: 36 at the 2011 PAC Fall Invitational and 36 at the 2012 PAC Championship.  The individual All-PAC teams are determined exclusively by scores at the spring, 36-hole PAC Championship.

Grove City is the defending PAC team champion after ending W&J’s five-year run atop the conference in 2011. 

However, Westminster owns the lead after the first half with 758 strokes (381-377), while W&J is second with 760 (383-377).  Grove City is in third place with 783 shots (393-390) followed by Saint Vincent (826) and Thomas More (1,276). 

Esther Durling ran away with the fall medalist award after posting a two-day score of 163 (81-82) in the 27-player field.  The W&J duo of sophomore Catherine Robinson (Troy, Ill./Triad) and freshman Jennifer Suder (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) were 17 shots behind in second place. 

Suder shot 89 on Monday and followed that performance up with 91 strokes today.  After opening in 11th place with 99 strokes, Robinson fired the low round of the day Tuesday with 81 strokes. 

Sophomore Katelyn Vannoy (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk) was 12th with 198 shots (96-102), while senior Tara Fatula (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) tied for 13th place with 202 strokes (99-103).

W&J continues its fall schedule Sunday in the first of two rounds at the Allegheny Invitational.
