W&J Track & Field Continues Spring Season at Allegheny

MEADVILLE, Pa. -- Three Washington & Jefferson College athletes won individual titles on Friday at the Allegheny College Gator Invitational.  The meet was unscored.

The women's senior duo of Katelynd McElhany (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) and Michelle Wuenstel (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone Oaks) continued to shine for the Presidents.  McElhany, the Presidents' Athletic Conference MVP, won the 100-meter hurdles (14.92) and placed third in the 400 hurdles (1:05.94).  Wuenstel captured the 400 meters (57.05) in a NCAA provisional-qualifying pace and was the runner-up at 200 meters (25.88).

Freshman Cheyenne Mangold (Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas/Texas Military Institute) was second in the 400 meters (58.88).

The men's team was led by PAC MVP junior Taylor Hockman (Martinsburg, W.Va./Hedgesville).  He was victorious in the long jump with a NCAA provisional mark of 7.07 meters.  Sophomore Benjamin Kopchick (Clarksburg, Pa./Saltsburg) also set a school record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:52.35.

Junior C.J. Corcoran (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) also performed well for the women's squad with a runner-up placement in the javelin.  She record her second NCAA provisional mark of the season with a throw of 40.07 meters.  Corcoran, McElhany, Wuenstel and Mangold teamed up for a third-place finish in the 4x100 relay.  The quartet's time of 48.68 was a school record and three-hundreths of a second off the NCAA qualifying mark.

The Presidents will be in action next on Thursday for the first of two days at the ECAC Division III Championships at Moravian College.
