W&J Track & Field Trio Wins Titles At Marietta

MARIETTA, Ohio – Senior Taylor Hockman’s (Martinsburg, W.Va./Hedgesville) long jump title, sophomore Cheyenne Mangold’s (Boerne, Texas/Texas Military Institute) 400-meter crown and freshman Kristen Galligan’s (Frederick, Md./Governor Thomas Johnson) mile-run championship highlighted Washington and Jefferson College Saturday at the Marietta College Indoor Track & Field Invitational. 

Hockman posted a top leap of 6.64 meters in the long jump and also took second place in the triple jump with a 12.52-meter leap. 

Mangold ran a time of 1:03.80 to place first in the 400 meters, while also taking second place in the 200 meters (28.44).  Galligan finished the mile run with a time of 5:25.88 and was the runner-up in the 800 meters (2:35.12). 

Senior Greg French (Buffalo, N.Y./Williamsville East) took third place in the 55-meter hurdles (8.39) and fourth place in the triple jump (11.75 meters).  Junior Benjamin Kopchick (Clarksburg, Pa./Saltsburg) was fourth in the 5,000 meters (16:34.46), while senior Adam Toomey (Youngwood, Pa./Hempfield) was fourth in the 500 meters (1:12.59). 

The women’s squad also received a third-place showing from sophomore Meghan Poinsett (Salem, N.J./Salem) in the 500 meters (1:23.42). 

W&J is back in action next week on Friday at the Baldwin-Wallace Invitational.
